Disability Representation in Children's Literature
This workshop focuses on how librarians can expand their school libraries to be more inclusive of disability. We will explore disability rhetoric, attitudes and models and how to identify them in children's literature. Librarians will receive tips and guidelines for discussing books with disabled characters and disability themes.
Presented by: Izzy Kaufman, Disability Equality in Education and Stacy McCafferty, Disability Equality in Education
3D Printing Via Digital Citizenship
Personal Branding and online digital safety lessons will be combined with the design process as students create a personal logo symbolizing their perceptions of themselves and portraying a positive image of themselves, no negativity is allowed. Students cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and become aware of the permanence of their actions in the digital world. They 3D Print their personal logo and present their design to peers.
Presented by: Janice Conger, Wissahickon Middle School
READ WOKE: how to integrate social justice
READ Woke is an initiative set by Cicely Lewis a librarian from Mississippi who was inspired by the Stay Woke movement. In this session, we will discuss what the term ‘Woke’ means and what criteria make up a ‘Woke’ book. A list of Woke books will be provided as well as a lesson plan developed for an English class that can be adapted for any grade level.
Presented by: Bethany Cvitkovic, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart HS, Theresa Long
